BRIGHT NIGHTS: NETWORKING

FOR CREATIVE + MISSION-DRIVEN SOLOPRENEURS

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18

Grow, learn and have fun with other solopreneurs
(with more wine and less whining)

Join us for our monthly night of networking for mission-driven and creative solopreneurs. Each month, we'll start with casual mingling and then feature a guest speaker to share insights about a topic relevant to all solopreneurs, whether they run holistic healing, counseling or coaching practices, creative solopreneur ventures, or side hustles.

This month, acupuncturist Kate Kirkham of Hearthside Healing will offer a talk called Building Resilience with (Everyday) Mindfulness, in which she discusses how she shares techniques and strategies on how to engage your senses to reduce anxiety, feel calmer and more present and face daily challenges with more energy and grace.

In this talk you’ll learn:

  • Why mindfulness? (What is it?)
Engaging your senses, using this awareness to help you feel calm. In addition you become aware of mental, emotional, physical discomfort… awareness teaches you where the work is (in order to have self awareness you must have self-compassion)… as you truly become aware of the discomfort, turn towards it, learn how to address it… “hello sadness…” (and stop using so much energy to cover it up…or addictive behaviors like drugs, alcohol, and screen time) “what if we met what’s inside of us with curiosity and love?” (Dr Solomon)

  • Why resilience? (How are mindfulness and resilience related?)
Becoming more aware of our bodies, the world around us and our emotions allows us to LISTEN to what we need in our lives (i.e., noticing when we are hungry, versus pushing through it and then feeling worse, grumpy at those around us).

Benefits of using mindfulness to build resilience -- better health, better sleep, less stress, better relationships, maybe if you’re lucky better sex!

  • Ways to incorporate mindfulness into your life (What does that look, feel, smell, sound, taste like?)
Taking time in nature daily if possible… something as simple as looking up at the stars when you take out the garbage, compost or recycling at night. Being aware of the change of seasons.

Meditation, guided meditation is OK! Easy, simple and short …At Portland Insight Meditation Community their intro to mindfulness class asked us to bring mindfulness into two daily activities (ie brushing your teeth, every time you do this you allow your breath to deepen, really be aware of the taste of the toothpaste, the sensation of brushing, the way your mouth feels afterwards)

VISION BOARD WORKSHOP

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2019

THEME: Are you craving more self care?

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

-- Audre Lorde

Are you feeling the need to slow down? Has 'overwhelm' taken over your life and thoughts? Vision boarding can help you carve out a new, better reality for ourselves. The brain research backs this up -- by tricking your brain into deciding that you're going to do it. What "Self Care" would you like to see happen for yourself? What activity (or lack thereof) will help you feel calmer, connect more with your friends and family, and stop dreading the future?

If you would like to create a vision for your Self Care Plan, join Elizabeth Cramer of Every Day Best Style & Kristin Schuchman of Spark a Career for this special Vision Board Workshop. They will help you create a vision board to start to see it more clearly come to life.

To make it easy by we provide pre-cut magazine pictures and words, glue, cardstock and a few art supplies. We'll provide prompts to move you forward if you're "stuck" and give you a chance to connect with an interesting group of people in a creative, motivating space.

Coffee, muffins and other snacks are included.

What: Vision Board Brunch (Theme: "Fall into Self Care")

When: Sunday, October 20, 11am - 1pm

Where: Brightside Coworking, 6018 SE Stark Street

Cost: $15 in Advance

($20 at the Door) Six spots available.
